EYE Socket Fix

Hi, welcome to my blog.  Today I am going to show you a great little fix that will help you save some of those “must have” candid images.  This fix is for images of people that have dark shadows in the eye sockets. Every person is different, some have shallow eye sockets, and some deep. You are never going to make perfect images of every single person you shoot, especially when you are taking pictures of people that are moving around in places with bad light.

If you are like me, you might find yourself shooting in venues with bad light. I shoot at weddings, parties, dances, ect, and when you find yourself shooting at these locations you will be dealing with “can” lighting from above.  With lighting from above, even when you use strobes for fill, you can still have problems with shadows in the eyes. It’s easy to just throw away every image that isn’t perfect from a lighting standpoint, however sometimes the images are more about the story than the bad light.

When you are shooting candids at a reception, you are going to have a lot of images that the lighting isn’t perfect. However, those candid images can be ones that tell the story; the story of how much fun people are having.  Having fun means lots of movement and lots of movement means lots of missed strobes. With the little trick in the video below, you just might be able to make a sellable image out of those that usually hit the recycle bin.

Take a few minutes to watch the video and add another tool to your retouchers tool box.  Thanks for taking time to visit my blog today. Thomas Shue
